One of the more frequent questions I hear is, "How many calories should I have to maintain/lose/gain weight?"  While your doctor is the best source of information such as this, here is some general information from the federal government that relates to how many calories are right to maintain weight for healthy people?   Also, a great short page on losing weight, again from the federal government.  FYI, one pounds equals about 3500 calories, so generally, taking in 500 calories less than that expended daily will result in a one pound weight loss per week; the above links will give you some guidance on this.
